The Brewster Police Department strongly supports a
proactive effort to keep these drivers off our roadways. In
Massachusetts the legal limit is .08%. At this level a person is
presumed under the influence and will be charged for operating under the
influence of alcohol. If however, the person is under the age 21 and
has a breath alcohol level of .02% or above, his or her right to operate
will be suspended.
The Officers of the Brewster Police Department have received
specialized training in the area of OUI enforcement. It is our goal to
rid our roads of impaired drivers.
Brewster Police Receive
New Equipment to Combat Drunk Driving
As a part of the Governor's Highway Safety Program, the Brewster
Police Department received a new breathalyzer system, called the Breath
Alcohol Testing System or "BATS". Our new BATS will allow us to more
efficiently process those arrested for drinking and driving and to
report the required information faster to state police and the registry
of Motor Vehicles. The new system should free up the officer's time
doing paperwork, related to drinking and driving arrests and get them
back onto the street to protect the community. All the new "BATS" in
Massachusetts will be connected to a network and the result will help
keep a database of this information to assist those prosecuting drunk
driving arrests as well as those planning safety programs to combat
impaired driving.
